Attendance

Regular attendance has countless benefits for your child's learning and development. Parents/carers play an important role in ensuring students get to school and stay in school every day.

Absentee Reasons

The below absentee reasons can be used by parents when informing our school of a child absence. In School Bytes, parents can record the absence code and provide reasoning as to why their child/ren were absent from school on any particular day.

'S' Sick:

'Sick' is used when the absence is due to illness or injury or as the result of a medical appointment.

Medical certificates are not necessarily required to explain absences due to illness but, Principal discretion can be applied on a case-by-case basis.

  • Any illness or sickness e.g., cold/flu, migraine, vomiting,
  • Any medical appointment,
  • Dental appointment,
  • Occupational therapy appointment,
  • Speech therapy,
  • Other allied health appointment.

'L' Leave:

'Leave' is used for approved leave.

Principal discretion can be applied when leave has been requested by the parent on whether the leave is approved or not.

Attended funeral:

  • Attended a funeral.

Family emergency:

  • Sudden illness to a students' family member,
  • Severe accident to a students' family member,
  • Other extenuating circumstances to a students' family member.

Religious event:

  • Any cultural or religious event or practice.

Travel - domestic or international:

  • Any type of holiday for any reason where a student will be absent from school for any period of time. An 'Application for Extended Leave' must be completed and given to the school for the Principal to either approve or reject the leave. If approved, you will be provided with a 'Certificate of Extended Leave'. Police and other authorised attendance officers, may ask to see this 'Certificate of Extended Leave' while traveling.

Other:

  • Any natural disaster causing the student from attending school e.g., flooding, fire or snow.
  • Unforeseen travel issues e.g., confirmed train delays or bus broken down.

'A' Unjustified Absence:

An unjustified absence is where the principal determines not to accept a parent/carer's explanation for their child's absence, using their discretion and professional judgement.

An unexplained absence is where no explanation has been provided by parent/carer within 7 calendar days of the occurrence of an absence. If a response hasn't been received by parent/carer after these 7 calendar days, the absence will automatically be set to an 'Unjustified Absence'.

  • Too tired
  • Slept in
  • Missed the bus
  • Beauty appointment e.g., haircuts
  • Looking after younger siblings or older relatives
  • Celebrating a birthday
  • Visiting relatives or friends
